I’ve been vegetarian for 8 years, and this year, I’m trying to become vegan! It’s fun experimenting in order to veganize Pinoy food (which is flavorful but meat-laden), and learn from already established cuisine that can be vegan-friendly. (Go, Japanese food!)
It is not always easy to find many western vegan products (like soy cheese) in the Philippines, but two things we have going for us is vegetables (as is almost everything else here) are inexpensive, and more and more farmers are going organic!
Gulay means vegetables – a food group I hated when I was a finicky eater growing up. Who knew I’d become vegetarian?
